About the Authors

Shipra Bansal MD, DipABLM

Dr. Bansal brings over a decade of experience in curriculum development to Foundations of Lifestyle Medicine.  She is currently Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences and Community Health at Touro University where she is leading the development of a lifestyle medicine certification program.  Prior to this, she was the Director of Osteopathic and Lifestyle Medicine at A.T. Still University - School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona (ATSU-SOMA), where she led the implementation of a fully integrated lifestyle medicine curriculum. 

As a practicing physician at the Susan Samueli Integrative Health Institute (SSIHI) and clinical professor at the University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine, she practiced and taught lifestyle medicine.  She continues to teach culinary medicine in this capacity.

Dr. Bansal completed her training at Harbor-UCLA in 2008. She is dual-boarded in Family Medicine as well as Lifestyle Medicine.  She is also a certified clinical health coach who enjoys cultivating empowering relationships with her patients.

Kelsea Sandefur, DO

Dr. Sandefur is a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) resident at Case Western MetroHealth in Cleveland, Ohio. She completed her medical training at A. T. Still University and her undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Skidmore College. She is very passionate about leading and inspiring an adventurous and healthy lifestyle. She has been actively involved with the ACLM since 2016, is currently pursuing her MPH and has plans for a Lifestyle Medicine fellowship at Loma Linda University.

Megan Alexander, MD

Dr. Alexander is an Obstetrics and Gynecology resident at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She obtained her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine, and she previously earned her Masters in Community Health and Prevention Research at Stanford University School of Medicine. She has a long-standing interest in empowering individuals to optimize health across the life course, preventing and treating all-too-prevalent lifestyle related diseases. 

Alex Teshon, MD

Dr. Teshon is an Emergency Medicine resident at HHH Kingwood in Houston, Texas. He received his medical degree at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville and his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of South Carolina. He also holds a Masters degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the University of Florida. In his spare time, he is an avid weightlifter, enjoys reading and being outside, as well as spending time in the kitchen and at home with his wife.
